On the cover of this issue is one woman with her family who are Fighting cancer with Faith. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We encourage you to be aware and take care by self-examination and yearly checkups.

I am so excited about this Fall issue’s special section showcasing area thrift stores. I LOVE flea markets, antiquing, digging through barns, and repurposing my “treasures.” In each town, I always want to know where the thrift stores are, so we have made a list of non-profit thrift shops and hope we haven’t left any out. Take a look at Get Thrifty and go donate and dig today!

We hope you enjoy the variety of articles featuring our neighbors and what they are doing to give back to the Odessa community. I am confident that this is the best issue yet! As you will read, we can each make a difference by using our gifts and talents for good. We are excited about the beautification of our local parks. We hope you use this issue’s feature, A Place to Play, as a directional tool to take your kids out and try them all this spring!

With graduation nearing we invite you to submit your favorite graduate’s picture to our content coordinator, Tabitha, for consideration in future issues of the Hometown Graduates special section. My oldest child, Gatlyn (5), is graduating from pre-k moving on to kindergarten next fall. My niece, Shyann, will be graduating from Angelo State University this May as well. Two major milestones, both could bring tears to my eyes, but regardless it is an exciting season. We congratulate all the graduates in your family and wish them well!

In this edition of Odessa Living you will see several features on downtown. We are excited about the members of our community making Odessa better than ever, especially downtown. Please read the ‘Clergy Couple’ of First Christian Church and learn about the renovation of the Rose building.

With preservation in mind check out, ‘Standing the Test of Time’ which details the transition the White-Pool House has made through the years with the help of Odessans making it a part of their special day.

This issue is the first ever to feature Super Docs; an exclusive section showcasing the many qualified physicians in the Permian Basin. Their specialties vary, but their attention to caring for you – the patient does not. So don’t put off what ails you any longer and scroll through this list to find a doctor near you that’s right for you. If you are new to town use this as a guide to help acclimate yourself to Odessa and keep your care local.

We are excited about fall…to me it means more than football and a drop in temperatures….it means memories with my babies and holiday traditions ahead! Below are a few pictures of falls past with my two children, Gatlyn and Georgia Lee, as well as, Casey’s precious 3 year old Jorie Cait. Time never seems to go by so quickly as it does when you look how much a child grows and changes in a few short months. This season don’t forget to shop local as we all strive to support one another, our neighbors – what better way to showcase HOMETOWN LIVING AT ITS BEST than to support local shops, vendors, and the let them know you’re spending your hard earned money at home.

As always, we thank you for reading Odessa Living. We strive to show you the many people, places, and things that highlight the numerous positive attributes Odessa has to offer! Happy Fall Y’all!
